Converting employees from casual to permanent in Employment Hero impacts multiple settings and can be tricky to handle if you're not careful. Having managed thousands of status changes across various industries, we know exactly what you need to do to set up proper casual-to-permanent transitions for your employees.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to update employment types, adjust leave entitlements, and modify pay categories correctly. You'll also learn how to verify award classifications and ensure leave accruals start calculating properly.
First, navigate to the employee list and search for the employee. Click on the employee name. Once we are in the employee profile, we're going to go to Tax File Declaration to update the employment type. From Employment Type here, we're going to update it to full-time or part-time and then hit save.
Once saved, we are going to go to Pay Defaults to update the employment agreement. If an employee is under an award, you're just going to update the employment agreement here to full-time or part-time. These changes will automatically update the pay rates, the leave allowance template, and the primary pay categories. Make sure that you also review the leave allowance you would like to apply for that employee. Then just save.
By the way, if the employee is not on an award, the changes you'll make here are to the primary pay category—from ordinary casual hours to permanent—and also the pay rates.
