SCHADS Award - What's the difference between a dayworker and a shiftworker?
Understanding the differences in penalty rates between dayworkers and shiftworkers in the MA000100 SCHADS Award
The MA000100 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 makes distinctions in the span of ordinary hours and subsequent penalties owed to an employee, depending on whether they are a dayworker or a shiftworker.
The key clauses to be familiar with here are clause 25.2 (Span of hours) and clause 29 (shiftwork). The below video covers an example where a dayworker (Felix) would be paid a different amount to a shiftworker (Jean) performing the same set of shifts:
In the case above, the key difference is that the penalties for a dayworker working outside of the 6am - 8pm span of hours entitle Felix to a total of 4 hours of overtime, while the penalties entitled to a shiftworker mean that Jean would receive night shift rates and afternoon shift rates on his corresponding shifts.
