What are some of the commonly asked questions from employees about NoahFace and privacy?

This article is written for employees who have concerns over data security and privacy where NoahFace Facial Recognition has just been introduced to the business.

How does it work?

NoahFace reads your face looking for certain features, mainly data points that make you unique. This is converted and stored as a special number, Every time you present yourself, it is checking for those same data points to within a margin of error. If it matches, you are clocked in or clocked out for work?

Can someone steal my biometric data?

The data point stored and your basic employee information is encrypted and meaningless to any other system. The encryption method used is TLS/SSL - the same that is used for internet banking in Australia.

What other data does NoahFace need?

Noahface retrieves your name, email address and mobile phone number and a unique employee ID which is maintained in your payroll system. These are the basic fields needed to get NoahFace to work. Note that we do not store date of birth or tax file numbers.

Is my data available to third parties?

No. We do not pass any personal information about you to third parties. More information about this can be found at our privacy policy

Where does my data live?

NoahFace data is stored in a secure cloud app. The data is hosted on an Amazon Web Server based out of Sydney, Australia.

Are there any health and safety concerns?

It is currently the safest clocking method in Australia. NoahFace has the option of running a feature called “No Touch Clocking”. This allows you to clock from a distance without even needing to touch the iPad screen.

What if my face changes?

NoahFace continually learns and modifies the data points it understands about your face. Think of the matching algorithm a bit like a “moving average”. It has even been tested to handle the uniqueness of identical twins.

What if I still don't want to consent to using it?

The first time you use NoahFace you will be expressly asked permission by the app. If you choose not to use biometrics to capture, that’s completely fine.

Here is an example of the consent screen.

If you start the registration process and then decline, your photograph is discarded, and biometrics are not extracted.

Each time you clock in and out, there will be an option to enter a passcode unique to you. You will receive your passcode by either SMS or Email.
