Retrospective Timesheets
Right now, retrospective time sheeting is the only option available in the Employment Hero app, but it's a good one. Staff simply choose a work type, a location, and enter some basic start and break time details to complete their timesheet for the day. They can optionally also add a comment, which will appear on the timesheet when being approved—let's keep it professional, guys.
Manager Approval
Managers approve their employees’ timesheets through either a browser or the Employment Hero app. Once again, approving is a simple process and requires only a single app download for the manager to approve—just in case there's a Jane in your management team too.
Shift Conditions
However, some Modern Awards and complex payroll setups require something called a shift condition. A shift condition is a multi-select item that lets us provide context about what was done on a shift. For example, I may fill out a timesheet where, for this shift, I was in charge of five employees and I was a first aid officer. In this example, I would use a shift condition to select both “first aid officer” and “in charge of two to five employees.”
Currently, Employment Hero doesn't allow for multiple shift conditions. This is something you need to consider if you want alternative clocking options.
Rostering Limitations
It's also worth noting that the Employment Hero app doesn't currently support all rostering features. Notably, if you're going to use rostering, the Employment Hero app does not allow staff to set their own unavailability. Supervisors can, however, perform this on their behalf. Staff also can't initiate a shift swap from the Employment Hero app. If you intend on taking advantage of these features, you should consider using Work Zone, which we'll discuss in the next video.
